And how is the setting in your profile?

Well, I set it to "no" as you instructed.
But I've just looked and it was back to "yes". (Yes, I DID finish by clicking "modify profile").
But done it again and now got it to "no" and the thread seems gone from the big board! Hurrah!
Who else gets/got this oddity?

OK, good. It's not really an oddity -- your main display can be either - all the thread titles from the main board, or - all the thread titles from the main board PLUS all the thread titles from the sub-board.
That is controlled by the "Expand Sub-Boards" setting in your profile.
The mystery is how it got to be set to "Yes" -- the default is "No" (i.e. do not show thread titles from both boards in the main display).
The boards are quite separate, even if you ask for the display to show thread titles from both. Once you click on a title, you are taken into the relevant board.
You should try to minimise use of your browser's "Forward" and "Back" buttons; for example, it's better to return to the list of titles by clicking the topic name at the top of the screen, rather than by using the back button. Doing it that way allows the board to update the "new" flags and so on. It might also help you to understand where you are. (This thread has never been on the main board, even if its title has been shown there. All very confusing, I know.)

Thanx for the explanation, Paul.
By the by. (Move this to "How the board works", if you prefer.) It seems that I am not the only one who misses the fact that there is another page before I reply.
Could the indication that there is another page to be viewed be just a tad (or even a lot) more prominent?

Beyond my control, Tone, I'm afraid.

I think I got Tone's oddity by setting the profile myself, when I first joined, thinking that I might otherwise miss out on something. I then forgot all about it and had the threads appearing in both places, and got correspondingly confused. I am now not confused (about this).

The comments about the Fowler siblings -- Robbie and Pauline -- in "write me" have been removed for being off-topic. They did amuse me though!

Off-topic comments removed from "differ to/from". Other topics seem in danger of straying -- reminders posted where appropriate.

Some old spam reports removed. (It's handy to have them in place when the spam deleting is done, but they don't need to be there forever, so I've removed them.)
Also Sue's note pointing them out, and an off-topic remark elsewhere from Twoddle.

No. When I read these threads as administrator my finger is constantly hovering over the "delete" button"!
