To participate fully here you should register. There are no particular requirements to be accepted for membership: I vet applicants merely to make sure they are not spammers (we get quite a few automated attempts at registration).
Choose a "Display Name" when you register; this is the name that others on the board will see. You will also have to give an e-mail address, but no-one other than me will see your e-mail address and I use it only to check that you are a genuine person (not a spammer). We do not use your e-mail address for any other purpose, and we do not sell it or pass it on to anyone else.

During registration, you will be asked to choose a name and a password; when you have done this, a message will be sent to me asking me yo authorise your registration. We do this in an attempt to stop spammers registering and then abusing the board. When you choose a name, I suggest you choose something sensible and more-or-less meaningful. It will be how you are known on the board, and will be visible to everyone. Try to avoid randomly generated names (such as jhgsdjg45) as this is the sort of thing spammers do, and I am likely to reject your registration. Read the board to see the sort of names other people have chosen. Names can use capital letters and spaces if you wish, so it could be your actual name, such as "Jill Smith" or something you wish to be known as, such as "Queen of the South". I will also see your e-mail address, but no-one else will. This must be a genuine e-mail address: if I think you might be a spammer, I will e-mail you. Finally, you will be asked to choose a username - you use this to log in. It may not contain spaces. You can post messages without registering (you will be seen as a "guest" and will have to choose a guest name each time); spammers seem not to realize this, but if it gets abused I may stop it, so if you plan to post more than once or twice, you should probably register. Once you have registered and been accepted, you should log in. Here's how the top-right of the board looks if you have not logged in (click the image to enlarge it): Click on "Login" to get to the sign in screen, which looks like this: Type in the username and password that you chose. If you don't want to do this each time (and if you are not using a public computer) also tick the "Remember Me" box. Finally, click "Continue". Now the top-right of the screen should show your name: You have successfully logged in. If you ticked "Remember Me" you will stay logged in (even if you go away and turn off your computer), so when you come back, maybe days later, you will still be logged in and you won't have to type your username and password again. To fully log out (so that you will need your username and password next time) either don't tick "Remember Me" or click "Logout". There's no need to do this unless you want to.
