Is it correct to write "I had a good night's sleep"?
Or is the use of an apostrophe in the statement incorrect?
If the use of the apostrophe is incorrect, is there a simple statement of the rule which covers the circumstances anticipated by my question?
My thanks in advance to those who have taken the trouble to provide an answer to my question.

It is correct to write, as you have, 'I had a good night's sleep'. The rule you're looking for is the possessive rule. It doesn't have to be a dog (as in 'the dog's ball') or a child ('the child's toy); it can be a night, a week, or an anything really. The rule you're looking for can be found in the FAQ section of this site. Click HEREPlease remember though, that if you'd like to write 'two/three/four etc. nights' sleep", you change it to a plural possession.

Many thanks for your help. You have cleared up an uncertainty that has existed in my mind for a long time now.
