Hi All, Sorry, I was not sure if there was a place specifically for "test" posts. I've just activated my account and wanted to see if I could post without any issues. Also, been trying to add my own avatar to my profile, but not sure it has worked! Anyhow, it's nice to be part of this forum, I joing the APS Forum some years ago ... I'm still chelseachick in case some of you remember (doubtful!). CC

And yes, I remember you from the APS board (how could one forget a Chelseachick!).

Hi Verbivore! I remember you too ;D So my avatar, that's the little chick thing, right? 'Cause I actually was trying to add my photo instead, which I noticed a few have done. It's no biggy though, so happy to stick with my (Chelsea)chick. CC P.S. Interestingly, your reply has prompted a language related question. You see, I would write "how could one forget a Chelseachick?!". But, are you implying that one only needs to use the exclamation mark in this instance?

Hello again, Chelseachick.
Re your: >You see, I would write "how could one forget a Chelseachick?!". But, are you implying that one only needs to use the exclamation mark in this instance? <
Yes, yes, yes! (Only.)
Because: a) It is an exclamatory statement, not a question.
b) The, so called, "interobang" is an abomination, almost as bad as the double, triple, or multiple exclamation mark.
Well, that's Tone's opinion, anyways. (And Pratchett's, also.)

Tone does, indeed, abhor the "interrobang", as he makes plain to us whenever the occasion arises. Others of us find it a useful new piece of punctuation, though (in my opinion) it should only ever be used in informal writing. There are times when one wishes to express a question in an exclamatory fashion, and the interrobang performs that function admirably. I agree wholeheartedly with Tone about multiple punctuation marks, however. "!!!!!!" and " ??" mean not a jot more than "!" and "?", look infantile, and should never be used.

Jjg1, Well done for picking me up on that one! Hideous now I read it back. Of course, I meant to write “a” photo as opposed to “my” photo. Tone, Thanks. By the way, what’s with the “anyways”? I though it was “anyway”? Twoddle, I guess, then, that I’m in the camp that finds the “interrobang” quite useful (for informal writing only). I, too, agree wholeheartedly that multiple punctuation marks are an abomination (and a waste of key-strokes). Ironic that the “question” emoticon has three question marks above its head … CC P.S. I love it here (on the forum)

Thanks. By the way, what’s with the “anyways”? I though it was “anyway”? Look upon it as a Toneism. You'll get used to them. Good. I hope you become a regular contributor.

Ah, gotcha, a Toneism. Learn something new everyday. Thanks ;D. I intend to stick around. Although my contribution will likely come in the form of asking questions (as opposed to teaching any of you anything. ) CC

>By the way, what’s with the “anyways”? I though it was “anyway”?<
'Tis a colloquialism.
And, think about it, it's more appropriate, and more logical.
"Any" implies plurality, so the plural "s" matches it.

And you'll get used to Twoddle cataloguing them.
