I'm going to adopt "atpersand". Obviously, blatantly, selbstverstaendlich wrong. But I'm starting to like it nevertheless.

Michael Quinion's World Wide Words has an article on the 'commercial at' symbol.

He/She was just quoting from the quiz answer as giveh - no research undertaken. Us boys/girls can be so gullible. "Ampersat" has a nice logic to it.

I can manage with ampersat too. I think I'm starting to prefer it to my suggestion!

He/She was just quoting from the quiz answer as giveh - no research undertaken. Who is "He/She"? I think Tone started it when he couldn't remember whether Bertie is a guy or a gal (amnesia?) in spite of Bertie's gender marker showing. Bertie's just continued the third person in the same vein.

I like ampersat, too, but, alas, the etymology doesn't quite work. Ampersand is a bastardised contraction of and per se and - that is 'and', by itself, 'and'. It would have to be atpersat, really.

How do you get 'am' out of 'and'? Following the logic of your explanation, should it not be either ampersam or andpersand? Just 'perseand would work surely? Only asking.

My guess is that it would be from the pronunciation. It's difficult to say 'and per', without it running together.

No, not amnesia. Just non-discriminatory, 'cos some people fib about their sex on forums. And also in life, to a friend of mine's great confusion many a year ago in the "The Cafe Des"! (Oh how we laughed!")

That's why I wrote 'bastardised contraction'. My guess, too, is it's the pronunciation, but don't blame me for apparently established etymology!
if you wanted a similar contraction, you could run with apersat (it loses the difficult-to-articulate plosive consonant cluster).
