In thinking about this, I realised the odd patterns I use in pronouncing the cipher. In long numbers and telephone numbers, I say “oh”; for postcodes, or other cases where it could be the letter O, I say “zero”.
For short fractional decimal numbers, though, I say “nought”: “nought point four”, “point nought five”, and so on.

My Breakfast Word of the Day: cockwomble n. a person, usually male, prone to making outrageously stupid statements and/or behaviour while generally having a very high opinion of their own wisdom and importance. (It doesn't appear in my 2nd edn OED, but there are many references to it online.)
I shan’t disclose the context or application in which I found it, but I’m sure there’s an apt use for it somewhere among current affairs. It keeps good company with Twod's earlier offering of ultracrepidarian.
