A thought just now occurred to me (ought to get out more?), so let's run it up the flagpole and see who salutes, or, stand against a wall and see who forms a firing squad. (Don't you just love metaphors. ) We seem to have a somewhat passing interest in use of the (English) language , and the use of language in poetry has been mentioned a few times, so how about this. A subset of the forum on which each of us could post our favouritest (!) piece of poetry. (And comments by others.) Any uptake for the (probably bloody daft) idea? Mayhap favouritest (! again) quotations, also? Tone

I'll support your motion/notion, provided I can chuck some of The Great McGonagall's in from time to time. For McGonagall's works are not to be sniffed At, because if he knew you'd done so he'd be terribly miffed.

Nice idea, especially if we can include quotations as well as just poems.

And Vv has used it as an opportunity to up his posting rate somewhat! ;D Oh gawd - hadn't even considered that. ;D Any opportunity to share some of my favourite collected lines and I can turn into an instant party bore. More to come - but another time, perhaps. You were saved from a greater onslaught by a 40-minute power outage that has just been resolved. (Must have been a whopper, as even my two heavy-duty UPPS units failed - though are now up and running again with no apparent damage. It has been reported that everything within an 80 km radius of my town went down.)

Ah, so the poetry and quotations threads were Tone's brainchild! They were the first improvements I saw on my return here after the summer. Well done Tone for the suggestion and everyone else who has supplied the content so far.
It'll take me ages to get back into the swing of things here since work started today, filling up most of my time, and our PC at home died the death last week! I'm not sure when we're getting it back, but there will then be a small queue of people (of which I am traditionally at the end) feverishly trying to reinstall all they have lost.

To add to the chorus of approbation, good idea, Tone! I've also used the section to up my post count somewhat.

Somehow, I almost regret adding that last line: "Mayhap favouritest (! again) quotations, also?".
I hoped to see poetry!
But, as the idea was (apparently and very surprisingly) acceptable, can we have one just for POETRY, please, nice Sir.
Tone (Or now, bloody Pandora!)

Tone That's what happens when the lights go out, Tone. ;D I predict that there'll be a noticeable increase in newborns exactly nine months hence. No TV = fornication.

Can't have another one just for poetry, Tone, there's already poetry there.

Can't have another one just for poetry, Tone, there's already poetry there. And it is now thriving. Thanks, Tone, for your excellent suggestion! We spend a lot of time and keystrokes here bitching about or otherwise being critical of language use, so it adds a worthy balance to the board when we can share some more beautiful, powerful, amusing, or inspiring examples of our language at work.
