Oh yes, Pete you're too late ;D But is cool, she doesn't mind she was quite interested actually. She agreed that in everyday life that I was correct but she told me (and I think this is stupid.) that on a GCSE exam for something to be bold it must be in black ink. GCSEs are so complicated! Well they are for me! All the marking and stuff is really weird. Anyway that's why she thought that but she doesn't know why on an exam it has to be black ink. I'm glad that's OK. I don't remember all that palaver when I did exams but then that was before laptops and all that stuff. My exam years were the first to be allowed to use electronic calculators in exams, instead of slide rules and log tables. Mind you, none of these were much good in English litereature!

There daft aren't they! Every things just got out of hand when it comes to the school curriculum! Honestly they don't know what to do next! And all the exams have to be written in clear black or blue ink because they computer scan them and the computer marks them! So if you have messy righting you can lose marks if it can't read your answers! Everybody relays on computers these days! I mean don't get me wrong there a brilliant helpful piece of technology but we depend on them so much its pathetic! Its like the whole world comes to an end when you have a power cut! Oh, I'm sorry I've kind of gone off the subject! I like ranting about things! Gives me something to do but I will stop I don't want to bore you all. He he! Anyway... Toodles!

Moderator Paul wants to keep this Quick Language Questions section of the forum strictly on topic, so be prepared sometimes to have your post moved elsewhere! There daft aren't they! How to be helpful, yet sensitive; positive, yet not pedantic; encouraging, yet not over-corrective; ... and remembering our APS roots. Paul???

Yes. I like Frankie's style very much, and I'm delighted to have her here. I have no doubt that she will find her way around very quickly, and I hope she joins in with the general chat on on the main board, and helps to answer specific questions here. Frankie, you occassionaly write things like there when I suspect you mean they're. Some people here are very good at spotting that sort of thing -- would you like to be told when that happens (it might helps with exams and things) or would you like people to try not to notice? We all make mistakes here, and we generally don't correct each other much.

I've locked this thread now because I think we've gone as far as we can with bold vs black. But Frankie had an insightful point about exams which will be of interest on the main board, so I've repeated it there.
