Deeply embarrassed, that's all: I thought I'd hit "new" and was seeing the most recent page, so happily set out the difference between arithmetic and mathematics, only to find a whole new page appear, on which others had already said much the same.
I know how to make my comments disappear, but not the whole posting!

What is the difference between arithmetic and mathematics? Or is it a TS? I've always thought arithmetic is a part of mathematics - and doesn't include the fancy stuff such as trigonometry and geometry; ergo, not a TS. But then I know bugger all about maths.
