I've started a religious cult that believes that the Universe is a giant canal created by a double pony that walks on water, towing the barge of life, and is known as the "One True Force". Already I have three converts, each donating four US cents. Anyone else want to join?

I have just started the first breakaway sect, as we believe that the ponies were actually pulling the narrowboat of life. ;D

Sorry Twoddle, I can't join your pony club, I'm a haytheist.
Actually I've just written a book, "The Equine Delusion". In it, I argue that there is no such thing as ponies. It's all an ancient myth to try to explain the mysterious movement of barges. In fact barges move along because they have engines; the obvious result of the process of evolution and the natural selection of motorised watercraft.

After the serious forces and movement of bodies stuff, this was a good chuckle, particularly the haytheist bit. Thanks.

Hmmm ...
I keep thinking cockney rhyming slang for pony.
Still, I suppose the complex iconography here would keep temple-designers and artisans busy for a long while (not merely a cross, a crescent, or a candlestick, but models of ponies, canals and barges).

The pony's out, I'm afraid: it's sacrilege to make an image of the holy equine. I've had to issue a fatwah against a Saudi newspaper editor for publishing a cartoon picture of a barge-towing horse.

A couple of novenas for your prayer-book, Twod:
Sancte mannule, ora pro nobis.
Holy pony, you're no phoney - pray for us.

I think pony is a mistranslation of the original mule. This was a slander perpetrated by the Knights Templar in their own quest to make their heresy respectable. If you can see beyond the perfidious Latin, you'll realise that original Hebrew/Sanskrit texts have been purposely misinterpreted by so-called scholars in the pay of a schismatic church, and the only way forward is ritual burning of all those who believe in the cult of the "pony".
For their own good, obviously.

This is an heretic myth invented by the grandson of the prophet of the the one-and-only pony, in his sacrilegious text, "Meus Mannulus Parvus". The peace-loving followers of the "One True Force" have been engaged in a millennium of the righteous slaughter of the heretical sect, so that their souls may receive salvation (and an indeterminate number of fillies). As part of the sacred ceremony of "The Hedging of Bets", I sat in the hot sunshine today. Will that be enough?

As part of the sacred ceremony of "The Hedging of Bets", I sat in the hot sunshine today. Will that be enough? And equally as part of the same ritual, I walked, with no protection, through a tropical storm force downpour. No doubt I was suffering the wrath of the Knights Templar having ignored their calling from the local bar.
