OK; the holiday admins have now become spam monitors. If any of them wish to be removed from this category, please could they let me know?
Many thanks to everyone who makes this forum such a congenial place to be.

Sure, I'm willing to delete any spam I come across. It's remarkably satisfactory!

OK, thanks, Alan. I have added the ability for spam monitors to see the IP addresses of posts -- I'd quite like to know the IP address of any spam that is deleted, so that (a) I can add it to the "banned posters" list and (b) see if any pattern emerges that might lead to my banning a range of addresses (all Chinese IP addresses, perhaps).

Do you want us to PM to you the IP addresses of any spammers when we delete their posts?

Or, if you post that you've deleted something, mention the IP. Spammers have no right to privacy.

I WILL take back the thread-locking power: that's a more controversial thing than deleting spam, and can rapidly cause bad feeling. For that reason it's better that just one person makes the decisions, and the bad feeling can be directed towards just that one person! You always do it so graciously, there could never be bad feelings!
