Forever Autumn, by Justin Hayward (of The Moody Blues)
The summer sun is fading as the year grows old And darker days are drawing near... The winter winds will be much colder Now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky And one by one they disappear. I wish that I was flying with them Now you're not here
Like a song through the trees you came to love me Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away...
Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way You always loved this time of year. Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now 'Cause you're not here
Like a song through the trees you came to love me Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away...
A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes As if to hide a lonely tear... My life will be forever autumn 'Cause you're not here!

I have always enjoyed Noel Coward's excellent rhyming in the last stanza of Nina (you'll recall that Nina was a girl from Argentina who hated to dance).
After some trial and tribulation she reached the station, and met a sailor who had acquired a wooden leg in Venezuela, and so she married him because he couldn't dance.
It's the idea of 'acquiring' a wooden leg, and the unexpected rhyming of 'sailor' with 'Venezuela' that makes it.

Are the lyrics from Simon and Garfunkel's 'Leaves that are Green' logical? I was 21 years when I wrote this song I'm 22 now, but I won't be for long ...I thought these were from A New England by Kirsty MacColl.

I was 21 years when I wrote this song I'm 22 now but I won't be for long People ask me when will I grow up to understand Why the girls I knew at school are already pushing prams
I loved you then as I love you still Though I put you on a pedestal you put me on the pill I don't feel bad about letting you go I just feel sad about letting you know
I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl? I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl?
I loved the words you wrote to me But that was bloody yesterday I can't survive on what you send Every time you need a friend
I saw two shooting stars last night I wished on them but they were only satellites It's wrong to wish on space hardware I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care
I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl? I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl?
My dreams were full of strange ideas* My mind was set despite your fears But other things got in the way I never asked that boy to stay
Once upon a time at home I sat beside the telephone Waiting for someone to pull me through When at last it didn't ring I knew it wasn't you
I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl? I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another? I don't want to change the world I'm not looking for a new England Are you looking for another girl? Looking for another girl? Looking for another girl? Looking for another girl? Girl? Girl? Girl?

And since we're on the subject, my favourite Kirsty lyric is this one:
I couldn't hear him when he called to me I couldn't hear him at all you see He was down the road away from me How could I know his answer? I couldn't hear him though he shouted hard I couldn't hear him in my own backyard The trains were rattling by above We never mentioned love
He may have held my hand When we were walking down the street He talked about all kinds of things But none of them were him and me He looked into my eyes Just as an airplane roared above Said something about football But he never mentioned love
I never heard him all the times he yelled I never heard him if he tried to tell me If my memory serves me well He never mentioned love I never hurt him though he says I did I never hurt him but I die a bit Each time he passes on the street He never mentions love
I used to call him every night And pray that he was home I couldn't bear the feeling I might have to live my life alone But now my phone is off the hook The word came from above It told me I was wasting time If he never mentioned love
I never heard him is he said he cared I never heard him, I kept my claws bared I never heard the things he says he said He never mentioned he was scared I never heard him when he asked for love I never heard him as the skies above Chucked buckets on the both of us He never mentioned love
So if I seem hardhearted I would like the court to note He never mentioned love to me In anything he wrote And if I seem coldblooded I should like to tell the judge In all the time I knew this man He never spoke of love Or if he did I never heard him when he called to me I never heard him at all you see He was down the line away from me He never mentioned LUV I never hurt him though he says I did I never hurt him, I just die a bit Each time we meet upon the street We never mention love

A great song sang by that harmonic choir, the Kop ;D. His armband proved he was a red - Torres, Torres! You'll never walk alone it said - Torres, Torres! We bought the lad from sunny Spain He gets the ball, he scores again Fer-nan-do Torres, Liverpool's number 9.The second verse is even better - I'll save you the pain .

New England? Wasn't that written by Billy Bragg?
My best friend's brother was married to Kirsty MacColl. Not a lot of people know that.

I was twenty-one years when I wrote this song. Im twenty-two now but I wont be for long Time hurries on. And the leaves that are green turn to brown, And they wither with the wind, And they crumble in your hand.
Etc. Plagiarism?

I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable members of this forum will tell me the correct song or piece of music this was written for, however, the tune I associate it with is: "The animals came in 2-by-2" (The arc song!).

More on the Kop theme, just for you, Pete. (To the tune of "Yellow Submarine")
On a Saturday afternoon, We support a team called Liverpool, And we sing until we drop, In a red and white Spion Kop, We all live in a red and white Kop, A red and white Kop, A red and white Kop, We all live in a red and white Kop, A red and white Kop, A red and white Kop
In a town where I was born, Lived a man who sailed the seas, And he told me of his pride, They were a famous football team, So we trailed to Anfield Road, Singing songs of victory, And there we found the holy ground, Of our hero Bill Shankly, We all live in red and white Kop…
;D

Might not work quite so well if they move ground, though!
