In another thread ... I also liked the title of Diana Rigg's No Turn Unstoned.) I struck me that amusing book titles would be a good topic for us to discuss. A quick Google led me to this topic in another forum. Can we improve on their list, preferably with real titles, not invented ones?

Can't think of any real ones, alas, but I recall that many years ago, one of the New Statesman Endgame competitions asked readers to submit near-titles that would be more boring than the originals. A few I recall were:
Dr Finlay's Bookcase Romeo and Tracy The Penultimate Mohican A Long Day's Journey into Ipswich The Hunchback of West Ealing United Reform Church
My apologies for my somewhat erratic appearance on the board of late - I've been in and out of home a bit recently (including a week's holiday in VERY rainy Ireland).

There's Dickens's epic tale of the 1860 International Spitting Contest: Great Expectorations; and his sad story of the woman who parted with her breasts for money: A Sale of Two Titties.

In the UK we've been "treated" recently to the new TV fictional series, Bonekickers - a sort of cross between Indiana Jones and the factual, long-running archaeology series, Time Team. I stopped watching after two or three episodes, so appallingly conceived, written and acted was it, and one reviewer drew to her readers' attention the fact that removing a few letters from the title would leave the much more aptly named Bonkers.

Agreed! We watched 2 episodes, in case the first was an aberration. But, no, the second was worse and we switched off completely half way through the third.

If anyone checked out the link in Alan's post, Bizarre Books is available on Amazon in an up-dated form.

And, I assume, it is also available even if nobody checked out the link...

No. That's the trouble with the uncertainty principle - if you don't look, it ain't there!

Ah, of course! But what about all those books that are not where you expect to find them, when you need them? And you know they have been there before.
