Just to let you know that I have started a new APS Forum for an experimental period. I would be grateful if "old members" of the Bravenet Forum (before the 'upset'!) could drop in on it from time to time to assess it and also to answer any questions about apostrophe use placed there. Thanks for your time in doing so. Eventually I shall discontinue either the old (Bravenet) Forum or the new one. You can find the new Forum at: apostrophe.lefora.com/forum/

Joined. I liked the APS yellow -- do you have a choice of colours on the new one, John? Seems a bit dark and gloomy at the moment!

I've just spent the last ten minutes trying to sign in, with no success at all! When I look at the posts, I see all the words written in a vertical column, which soon caused me to give up trying to read them.
The problem probably lies within my antiquated school PC, which is to be replaced any time now (or rather, since last Christmas).
I'll see whether I have the time from some other PC to which I have access.

Sorry, John,
I applaud your efforts, but as I posted in the other forum, I can't see much point now that the APS forum is restricted to apostrophe discussion only. In fact, the Bravenet format probably hides the paucity of the content better.
Not your fault, I know.

"Just to let you know that I have started a new APS Forum for an experimental period."
I went there to see what an experimental period was. Despite your description, it was about our old friend the apostrophe, as the title so mundanely yet accurately states! I thought I'd find some cutting edge grammatical evolution taking place, but alas, the only periods I saw were at the end of sentences. Unless... unless... unless the experimental period is actually the lack of periods in John H's and John R's appellations!
So now I'm forced to ask, after how long of a period does this experimental period lose that status and become a grammatically-correct non-period? Maybe then the title will change to PRS (Period Riddance Society) Forum...

I've just spent the last ten minutes trying to sign in, with no success at all! Sue, I tried to join, and couldn't ... and I'm still having problems logging in to this Board for any period less than 'Forever'. Paul and I have been trying to discover the reason(s) for my problems with this Board, and when I told him I couldn't join John H's new one, we agreed (with a little additional evidence) that my problem lies with my cookies, or the lack thereof. I don't know if that has anything to do with your particular problem. There are two other computers alongside this one, and logging in to this Board is not a problem with them; and I assume I could join John H's board on the other computers, too.

Geoff, the funny thing was that after I'd given up and gone away, I later checked in on a different PC and found an e-mail welcoming me to the new forum, where I found I could log in as easy as pie. So probably I simply hadn't realised that one needs to be patient and wait for the e-mail! I thought it would be "instant access", as it was here.

I think I am forming the conclusion, with your help, that the new APS Forum that I have started is not yet "fit for purpose"! They (Lefora) say that they are working on various problems as it is new(ish) so I'll keep it going for a short while but almost certainly will stick with the existing Bravenet forum which I think is probably best suited to the (current) facility required for the APS by John Richards.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
PS: I really like this Forum you have started, Paul - very nicely presented and set up. JH

Considering your expertise, that's quite a compliment. Much appreciated.

After evaluation, I think the Bravenet Forum on the parent APS site is "fit for purpose", so I have deleted (as much as I can of) the New APS Forum.
Thanks to those who contributed during its short life.
Also thanks to all of you who continue to help with answers to visitors' problems on the APS Forum. Much appreciated by me (and hopefully by John R - though he hasn't been in contact since his promulgation!)

>though he hasn't been in contact since his promulgation!<
"promulgation" An interestingly tactful choice of word.
In hospital with a bullet-hole in his foot, perhaps?
And thanks, John, for your efforts in trying with the new forum, but I agree with your choice.

I pop along occasionally but it's not as interesting as this site - bit too much about apostrophes

John, thanks. I pop along occasionally but it's not as interesting as this site - bit too much about apostrophes Sorry, just realised that might appear somewhat rude (and deserving of a smite). What I meant was that I particularly enjoy the wide range of topics on this site, which includes discussions about apostrophes. I'll stop digging now.

Pete! You're at it, now! The ubiquitous "pop" has popped up again. Now that does deserve a smite. (You never know, you might get to enjoy it!)
