Perhaps it's an IE special effect. If I have to instal IE to see a glow or a shadow, I'd rather live without the effect! Long live my Microsux-free workplace!

Bugger! Again I get caught answering from the middle of a thread!

Heee hee!
A small hint, then, for those who come a cropper with middle-of-thread answers. It helps to get into the habit of clicking the latest number rather than the thread title to access a thread - you can always click << if you've started too far on!
Sorry, that was a bit obvious!

I always use the "new" buttons to get me to the (supposedly) latest unread (by me) posts. When inspired to respond, I forget to look farther down to see how long the thread goes.
I don't have time to trawl through all posts or all threads, so "new" has to be my entry.

The "new" button is a great feature. On the other board which I inhabit there is a "view new posts" button, but that merely lists the threads to which new posts have been made. When these extend to several pages it is very irksome to locate one's leave-off point. Obviously inferior to that which Paul has provided us with here.

You're all very kind, but it's really not very much to do with me. Most of the hard work is done by ProBoards.

Paul,
On the list of threads page, is it possible to highlight the thread one selects for reading? Once the thread starts going OT it's hard to relate what one has read to the thread title. I find when I return to select the next thread to read, I'm not sure which thread I had just read. Sure, before returning to the thread list I could check the title of the thread I'm reading, but it's not a habit I've developed yet.

Not something I have control over, Geoff, sorry.
I just read (the last page of) all the "new" threads, bottom-up. When I've read one, I click the "Apostrophes and more" link at the top of the thread page, which takes me back to the thread list with the "new" flags updated. Repeat until there are no "new" flags.

I find that the last thread is already high-lit when I return to the forum index by using the 'back' button (sometimes several times. Then I just click the next 'new' button below it.

Well each to his own, of course, but it's a little unwise to use the back button too much in forums. It tends to confuse them, and your "new" flags get out of date.
Better to read from the lowest "new" button upwards, too. Otherwise, if someone is adding to a thread you've just seen, you get to see it all over again!
