The comma and the colon Were fighting for a clause. The question mark was querying The punctuation laws. While all around was havoc The full-stop came to rest, And decided that the written word Was quite correctly dressed.
Then up popped the apostrophe (With someone else's quote): "I really think that phrase before Is just a tad remote". They all agreed the colon Would be, by far, too heavy, So they called upon the dash To run and get the semi.
He saved the day for everyone; But his mission now is done. So again he rests, forgotten, till Once more he's called upon.

And a follow-up:
The semicolon is a mathematical anomaly; Two of them do not make a colon: punctuationally But I rejoice, semicomically That it's not half a colon: anatomically.

In case no-one has by now guessed: I am having a major clean-out-cum-rediscovery of some long-forgotten gems (and crap) on my Mac, and thought to share them here before I go out and purchase another terabyte of storage. It's possible that some of these pieces have been previously posted (by me or others) on other forums, so advance apologies to those bored by repetition.
