That's a strange accent you have there, Alan! Surely Danaos? Seems hard on the Greeks, too.

Either Beware of Greeks bearing gifts or Beware of Greeks even when they are bearing gifts. Think Trojan horse (which was, of course, a Greek horse).
As I say, very Greek-ist.

Paul,
I think Alan was using the letter similarity to change Danaos to Tonaos: Beware of Tones bearing gifts ...

Ah, sorry. How stupid of me, and how clever of Alan! I like it.

Barbecue or Barbeque
Though barbecue may be considered most correct, I've mostly seen it spelled barbeque, sometimes bar-b-que, or abbreviated as bbq with no period here in the U.S.
Now I'm hungry...

Folks,
Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but I wanted to find an appropriate place to simply say how much I'm enjoying this new forum. Thanks once again for setting it up, Paul. And to everyone for making so interesting!

I second Trevor. The forum seems to have got better (if that's possible, given how good it was to start with) with time. The only very slight problem I have is a reluctance to post as everyone seems so damn clever, not only having an extraordinarily wide vocabulary but amazing analytic and logical skills. I enjoy watching from the sidelines and chipping in with the odd simple comment though.

Dr Mildr, your genuine modesty does you great credit, but you should discard it here! If you can't regard youreslf as a giant among posters, you can at least think of yourself as a worthy equal!

Thank you, Trevor. As you say, I am merely the midwife -- the baby is the creation of us all!

I'm trying to get that rather unsavoury image out of my head ;D
Unless you meant that we were all running round the lab, cackling like Dr. Frankenstein (yeth, marthter)

If I suggested we all had a hand in it would that help your visual images, Barry?
