Is anyone else getting the APS forum "frozen" at 7 June?
I've not noticed such a cessation before. Is it lack of interest, or has something gone wrong?

It has gone very quiet - but I suppose there's only so much discussion to be had on a mere apostrophe.
Things are considerably livelier here - possibly because we are less restricted in topic matter.

Things are considerably livelier here - possibly because we are less restricted in topic matter. ...and because you're so friendly and welcoming. Not forgetting the fact that the topics here are extremely informative, humorous and enjoyable. ..Oh! and relevant! (In the main ).

Oh! and relevant! (In the main ). What? You think we ( in the main) stay on topic?

Well... no, but that's what makes it all the things stated in my previous post! I know as the body gets older the mind wanders

I tend to find the converse is true: as the mind gets older, the body wanders ...

Barry - this prompts some intriguing thoughts, but I think I would probably prefer not to be enlightened! (There would be a smiley here, but I seem to have a problem.)

For once, Susan, I wasn't being saucy! I was thinking of: a) wandering into the kitchen, and forgetting why; b) the body's expanding frontiers as the mind becomes les concerned with phyical appearance

I don't believe it for one second. a) I do that now anyway, Barry, after eight pints of Strongbow. It's normally to find the sink, but I often "come up" (ewww) short! b) I take it you too, have "man boobs"? Susan, If the little pictures don't appear, can you not simply type the smiley you require? Or is this a classic example of my MSN days. = ; ) ... = : ) ... = : D ... = : ) ... ;D = ; D ... = : o ... for example, and there are many more!

Vadim, I think the problem was with me (rather than with the smilies/smileys!) ;D

It has gone very quiet - but I suppose there's only so much discussion to be had on a mere apostrophe. Actually, not so! Now we are a few weeks on, the main advantage of John R's request to keep the APS Board for apostrophe problems seems to be that there are many more threads as the maximum quota of 250 takes longer to "use up" with shorter threads. Currently there are 51, yes fifty-one, threads - whereas before there were usually about a dozen of 30 replies each. John H (APS Webmaster)

John, what you say about the APS is true and it's the type of thing that has has me thinking about this board. There are at least five active threads that are seven or more pages long. It's hard to know how the current topic of discussion in those threads relates to the thread title. A lot of what has been discussed in them could warrant threads of their own so that a look at the list of threads is something of an index of the subjects discussed. I don't know how to control board use in the way I'm thinking, although I feel the decree on the APS board to limit the number of posts to a thread to thirty, seemed to work there.
See, even what I'm saying here is likely to take the focus off the APS, which the thread title suggests is the subject of discussion, and focus attention on matters relating specifically to this board.
Would someone like to start a new thread?

In all my time of reading / posting to the APS forum, I never found a no-new-posts day, but recently there was a hiatus from June 7 to June 10. Perhaps it was related to sunspot activity or some such. If everyone's happy, all's well.

Would someone like to start a new thread? I have no objection to limiting threads to 30 posts, or whatever number people decide is best. Hey, we could have another poll. Is this one for Paul to think about? I notice that he's only 2 posts short of god-hood. ;D

You see the APS Board, for all its faults, is really not too bad!!
